Hoy se celebra el Día Universal del Niño que tiene más de cuarenta años. Fue en 1954 cuando la Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas (ONU)recomendó que se instituyera en todos los países el Día Universal del Niño, una fecha exclusivamente consagrada a reafirmar los derechos de los niños y a destinar diversas actividades para lograr el bienestar de los niños del mundo.
El objetivo del Día Universal del Niño es recordar a la ciudadanía que los niños son el colectivo más vulnerable y por tanto que más sufre las guerras, las crisis y los problemas políticos del mundo.
Este día mundial recuerda que todos los niños y las niñas tienen derecho a la salud, la educación y la protección, independientemente del lugar del mundo en el que haya nacido.
Dedicar un día internacional a la infancia también sirve para hacer un llamamiento mundial sobre las necesidades de los y las más pequeñas y para reconocer la labor de las personas que cada día trabajan para que los niños y niñas tengan un futuro mejor.
